Brian Ng to take over as PhilWeb president Feb. 1

PhilWeb Corp. has announced a change in leadership of the company set to take effect next month, with the resignation of Dennis Valdes who is set to move to Roberto Ongpin's Alphaland Corp.

In a regulatory filing on Thursday, PhilWeb said senior vice president for gaming Brian Ng is set to take over as president effect February 1, 2020, following Valdes' resignation.

Ng has held his post since he joined the company in 2011, after stints with Affinity Express Philippines Inc., RR Donnelley Global Outsourcing, SPi, and the Print Town Group of Companies.

He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the Ateneo de Manila University, and an MBA from the Ateneo de Manila Graduate School of Business.

"We are very pleased with the election of Brian to the post of president," said Valdes.

"His capable handling of our gaming operations over the past years gives us great confidence that he will bring fresh ideas and renewed energy to the task of propelling PhilWeb to new heights, especially as we continue our dual push in e-casino and e-bingo," he added.

To recall, President Rodrigo Duterte in August 2016 tagged then PhilWeb chairman Roberto Ongpin as among the oligarchs that have an undue influence on the government, which he claimed he intended to end during his term.

Following this, PhilWeb failed to score a licensing deal from the Philippine Amusement Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR).

The businessman then left the company and in October 2016 sold his shares to the company's current chairman Gregorio Ma. Araneta III for P2.006 billion.

PhilWeb in 2017 then scored a provisional certificate of accreditation as an electronic gaming system (EGS) service provider from PAGCOR.

As of end-2019, PhilWeb had 89 electronic gaming outlets either directly owned or under management control — 66 e-Games outlets, and 23 e-bingo outlets.

For his part, Valdes is set to move to Alphaland Corp. where he currently sits as director. — MDM, GMA News
