Meralco to defer maintenance work during Metro Manila quarantine
The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) deferred its maintenance activities earlier scheduled from March 15 to April 14, to ensure uninterrupted distribution during the community quarantine of Metro Manila.
In an advisory released late Sunday evening, the Pangilinan-led company assured the public that it would serve its customers and operate 24/7 "uninterrupted distribution of power."
"(Meralco) will defer its earlier scheduled maintenance activities during the community quarantine period except for those deemed as critically loaded areas, as approved by the Department of Energy (DOE)," the company said.
The company earlier released an advisory indicating that customers in Metro Manila and Bulacan may experience power interruptions this week.
This would coincide with the community quarantine placed over the National Capital Region from March 15 to April 14.
"During these challenging times, Meralco will continue working with the energy sector so as to ensure that electric power services remain uninterrupted. Meralco is implementing its business continuity plan and emergency measures to distribute power around the clock, especially to crucial installations such as hospitals," said Engr. Ronnie Aperocho, SVP and head of networks.
"At the same time, we are one with the power sector in our total compliance with the directives of the DOH in order to arrest the COVID 19 situation. Our customers can be rest assured that safety is also of paramount concern to us and we will continue to cooperate with government in ensuring that we will provide the best level of service expected from us," he elaborated. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA News
