Vivant CEO succumbs to complications due to COVID-19
Dennis N.A Garcia, chief executive officer and chairman of Cebu-based electric power firm Vivant Corp. (VVT), passed away over the weekend due to complications brought about by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
According to a statement released by his family on Monday, Garcia died of complications related to COVID-19 on Saturday, March 28, 2020. His body was cremated on Sunday, March 29, 2020.
The family said Garcia had prior respiratory health issues, specifically emphysema, before COVID-19 was a known issue. He was then hospitalized at the Cebu Doctors' University Hospital on Wednesday, March 25.
"Vivant is working with the Cebu City government to track his movements in the two weeks prior to his hospitalization in order to identify people he was in close contact with for monitoring, quarantine, and possible testing," the statement read.
VVT, through its subsidiaries and affiliates, has interests in various companies engaged in electric power generation, electric power distribution, and retail electricity supply businesses. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuena/RSJ, GMA News
