Indian BPO firm sets up base in Cebu, to hire 900 workers
Indian IT services firm Wipro Technologies, a unit of New York-listed Wipro Ltd., on Thursday opened a business process outsourcing center in Cebu which will hire more than 900 employees. Wipro said the Cebu unit is "part of its strategy to build global delivery capabilities." The 45,000 square-foot Cebu facility will handle customer-focused support processes. âThe Philippines is one of the largest English speaking nations with a strong IT orientation and a talent pool of 29 million. This is one location that we definitely want to expand our presence in," said T.K. Kurien, president of Wipro BPO. The company said it is also looking at establishing additional centers in other fast-growing cities in the Philippines. Wipro said its choice of Cebu as its newest BPO destination highlights the Philippinesâs emergence as a leading global outsourced service hub. It cited an earlier study by investment advisory firm Tholons, which identified Manila as among the Top 5 prime outsourcing destinations, and Cebu as one of the leading emerging global destinations for outsourced processes. As a part of its global expansion strategy, Wipro has already invested in several overseas centers. In the last nine months alone, Wipro successfully setup global delivery centers in Romania and Shanghai. - GMANews.TV
