September 4-9 Maynilad service interruption affects 16 barangays

Maynilad Water Services Inc.'s rotational service interruptions, scheduled to last from September 4 to 9, affected 15 barangays in Quezon City and one in Valenzuela.

According to Emil Sumangil’s Friday report on “24 Oras,” water services in the Quezon City barangays would be interrupted from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m, while Barangay Ugong in Valenzuela will experience interruptions from 4 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The Quezon City to be affected barangays were:

  • Bagong Silangan
  • Batasan Hills
  • Commonwealth
  • Greater Fairview
  • Holy Spirit
  • Payatas
  • Bagbag
  • Gulod
  • Nagkaisang Nayon
  • North Fairview
  • San Bartolome
  • Sauyo
  • Sta. Lucia
  • Sta. Monica
  • Talipapa

More than 166,000 people will be affected by the service interruption.

Maynilad water supply operations head Ronald Padua said the service interruption was due to a water leak at their discharge valves that submerged four pumps at the North C Annex Pumping station.

“Kapag po kasi lumubog o kaya na-submerge sa tubig ang mga motor na ito, kinakailangan po siyang patuyuin thoroughly para maging operational ulit siya. Normally po ang pagpapatuyo nito, it takes us about five days,” Padua said.

Maynilad was investigating the water leak.

Meanwhile, residents were surprised by the water service interruption in their area.

“Wala, walang tubig. Mayroon kaunti isang drum. Hindi kami nakakanood ng balita,” a resident said.

Small businesses such as laundry shops and car washes were also affected by the interruption.

“Di po namin alam eh. Bigla rin po kasi pagkawala ng tubig,” a car wash employee said. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/DVM, GMA News
