Smart says services being gradually restored

Smart Communications Inc. on Monday afternoon said it is in the process of gradually restoring services, after several subscribers reported a change in the quality during the day.

In an advisory, Smart said customers may have experienced a change in the quality of voice, short messaging services (SMS), and data services.

"Our services are gradually getting restored. More details as they come in the next advisory. Thank you for your patience," it said. It did not elaborate.

In the first six months of 2020, Smart Communications increased the number of its LTE base stations by 10%. It also reallocated its assigned 1800 Mhz frequency from 2G to 4G or LTE, bringing the number of its base stations to 3,785 for its LTE network.

Smart's mobile network is supported by PLDT Inc.'s fiber infrastructure, providing links to LTE base stations at an estimated 360,000 kilometers nationwide.

Shares in PLDT Inc. closed Monday at P1,383.00 apiece, up P6.00 or 0.44% from last Friday's finish of P1,377.00.—LDF, GMA News
