Founders of Grab PHL, Kenny Rogers' chain join Cebu Air board

Cebu Air Inc., the operator of budget carrier Cebu Pacific, announced the appointment of two new independent directors of the company.

“The Corporation wishes to announce the election of Ms. Bernadine Siy and Mr. Brian Matthew Cu as independent directors effective as of 03 February 2021,” Cebu Air said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.

Brian Cu is the former president and co-founder for Grab Philippines.

Bernadine Siy, meanwhile, is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Kenny Rogers restaurant chain which she founded in 1994, and Seattle’s Best Coffee which she introduced to the Philippine market in 2000.

Cebu Air described Cu as having a “real passion for building companies that deliver a positive impact in society.”

It said Cu began his career as a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

“While in BCG, he co-founded GoJek in Indonesia. He decided to jump full time into the world of entrepreneurship in 2012 when he co-founded Zalora Philippines,” it said.

“He left in mid-2013 to co-found Grab Philippines and served as its president until August 2020,” it added.

On the other hand, Cebu Air said Siy is currently the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ateneo de Manila University, “making her the first woman to hold the position.”

“She received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics (Honors Program) from the Ateneo de Manila University and graduated magna cum laude,” the company said.

“Ms. Siy also has a Masters in Management degree from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management Northwestern University in Chicago in the United States,” it added. -NB, GMA News
