Globe: Services restored in airports hit by Odette

Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. said Friday it has restored network services in airports affected by the onslaught of Typhoon Odette last week.

In a statement, Globe said services were restored in Mactan Airport Cebu, Siargao Airport, and Surigao Airport, helping stranded passengers fly to their destinations and reconnect with their loved ones in time for Christmas.

“Restoring services in airports is part of Globe’s priority in its post-Typhoon Odette infrastructure repairs, seeing its importance in bridging areas affected by the typhoon, and its residents, during the holiday season,” the telco said.

Globe also said data services are now operational in Ormoc City and Eastern Samar, while Palawan nears complete restoration.

“More areas are seeing significant progress in network repairs across Visayas and Mindanao, despite power issues, flooding and infrastructure damages at the aftermath of Typhoon Odette,” it said.

“In Cebu, repairs continue but challenges remain because power lines are down and there are major infrastructure damages. However, Globe was able to fully restore network services in some parts of Cebu,” it added.

The telco is also providing free and unlimited GoWiFi in select malls, government offices, and airports in Visayas and Mindanao areas affected by the tropical cyclone.

Likewise, it set up free call and charging stations in several areas in the Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan. — VBL, GMA News
