MWSS tells Maynilad to explain water interruptions in Muntinlupa, lack of advisories

The MWSS Regulatory Office has issued Maynilad a notice to explain in connection with recurring water service interruptions in areas served by the Putatan water treatment plants.

In a statement, the MWSS RO issued the notice on Thursday due to the "lack of necessary public advisories and notices regarding water service interruption (WSI) schedules, the continuous extension of WSI schedules, and the surge in customer complaints received and monitored by the Office."

"The MWSS RO is aware of and is closely monitoring the developments of the situation. Moreover, the Office has already asked Maynilad to explain and solve the issues immediately," MWSS Chief Regulator Patrick Ty said.

"If the situation persists, the MWSS RO will not hesitate to impose another sanction on Maynilad, similar to the financial penalty implemented by the Office last October 2022," he added.

Sought for comment, Maynilad spokesperson Jennifer Rufo said the water production of the treatment plant in Muntinlupa was "currently reduced owing to a damage in the facility’s sludge removal equipment."

"We have apprised the MWSS RO and MWSS CO of this situation, and they are monitoring the steps being undertaken to facilitate repairs and intensify our information dissemination efforts," Rufo said. —Sherylin Untalan and Jon Viktor Cabuenas/NB, GMA Integrated News
