Palace: Logistics company DP World eyes setting up industrial park in Pampanga

Malacañang said Thursday that Dubai-based logistics company DP World has expressed interest in investing in industrial parks in the Philippines.

"We are committed to investing in the Philippines; we’re committed to [expanding]," DP World Group chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem told President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on the sidelines of the 2023 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Wednesday.

"So we’re interested in the Philippines, in industrial parks," he added.

The Presidential Communications Office said the company is eyeing the establishment of an industrial park in Clarkfield, Pampanga.

Sulayem said that the logistics company has been developing industrial parks in multiple nations and has successful ventures in Dubai.

The company also develops industrial parks in Senegal, Egypt, India, and Pakistan.

Sulayem said DP World could "add value to the supply chain, with sea transportation being the cheapest means of moving cargo."

Marcos told DP World that the government has to decide on the possible sites in terms of operations and planning as well as ideal locations to spur local development.

"And if it’s viable and those areas are actually useful for your operation, then that would be something that we can immediately develop," Marcos said.

DP World started as a local port operator in Dubai in 1972, and now it has transformed into a global logistics provider in over 69 countries across every continent.

To date, it now moves 10% of the global trade through a seamless, interconnected global network of ports and terminals, economic and free zones, logistics hubs, and marine services. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
