DICT urges Filipinos to register SIMs as April 26 deadline looms

With the deadline only a little over two weeks away, the Department of Information and Communications Technology is urging mobile phone users to register their SIMs to avoid deactivation.

According to Maki Pulido's report on 24 Oras on Monday, the DICT said that the deadline for the registration of SIMs will not be extended past April 26.

The DICT also said that the number of registrations are currently "far from the target," with 64,114,057 SIMs registered as of 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 9. This translates to 37.94% of the 168.977 million SIMs across the country, with Smart Communications Inc. accounting for 32.038 million; Globe Telecom Inc. for 27.257 million; and DITO Telecommunity Corporation for 4.818 million.

"Mawawala ang lahat ng remaining balance and promos after April 26...forfeited 'yan lahat," said PLDT and Smart first vice president and corporate communications head Cathy Yang. "Magba-black out ang inyong mobile phone at hindi na kayo makakatawag at makakapagtext at makakapaggamit ng mga apps, makakapagbayad o magpadala ng pera."
