AirAsia Philippines to operate domestic flights at NAIA Terminal 2 starting July 1
Low-cost carrier AirAsia Philippines announced on Tuesday that it would operate all its domestic flights at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 starting July 1, 2023.
In a statement, AirAsia Philippines said it is setting NAIA Terminal 2 as its new "Manila domestic hub," while maintaining NAIA Terminal 3 for all its international flights.
AirAsia Philippines, which currently operates domestic flights at NAIA terminals 3 and 4, will utilize NAIA Terminal 2’s 20 check-in counters and four online check-in kiosks at the south wing of the terminal.
"Our transfer to NAIA 2 is a winning move for our guests. They can now enjoy a bigger space and expect better airport service. We may be moving to a new terminal building, but they can only expect the same world’s best service from AirAsia. Now that we are on the growth stage, we look forward to expanding further our domestic routes and capacity through this new terminal building," said AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla.
The airline said the transfer of its domestic flights to NAIA Terminal 2 is part of the Manila International Airport Authority’s (MIAA) Schedule and Terminal Assignment Rationalization (STAR), which aims to decongest NAIA Terminal 4.
"The transfer of AirAsia’s domestic flights to Terminal 2 is anticipated to greatly benefit its passengers and boost consideration for local tourism," MIAA officer-in-charge Bryan Co said.
"Those flying with the airline can expect more spacious accommodations, a higher safety rating, and greater overall ease of access at T2, in line with our continued efforts to elevate guests’ overall experience at NAIA," he added. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
