Manila Water to build P7.84B treatment plant in Laguna Lake
East zone concessionaire Manila Water Company Inc. on Friday announced it will be constructing a new water treatment plant that will draw water from the east bay of the Laguna Lake.
In a statement, Manila Water said the East Bay Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant will have a capacity of 200 million liters per day and will provide an additional supply of potable water to an estimated population of two million in Pasig, Pateros, Taguig, and nearby towns by the first few months of 2025.
The water concessionaire said the plant will treat the water from Laguna Lake using a reverse osmosis process to make it suitable for public consumption.
The company said it inked a partnership deal with ACCIONA, PrimeBMD, and Santa Clara International, which formed a consortium that will design and construct the facility.The project has an estimated cost of P7.84 billion. It is located in Barangay Kabulusan, Pakil, Laguna.
The new treatment plant forms part of Manila Water’s East Bay Phase 2 Water Supply System Project, which also includes the construction of a reservoir, pumping station, and pipelaying of 60 kilometers pipes.
Manila Water provides water distribution and sewerage services in the East zone which spans the cities of Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, most parts of Quezon City, portions of Manila; as well as the towns Angono, Antipolo, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, Cardona, Jala-Jala, Morong, Pililia, Rodriguez, San Mateo, Tanay, Taytay, and Teresa in Rizal province. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
