Malaysian milk company to invest $20M for cattle breeding in PH

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian company Farm Fresh Berhad will make $20 million worth of investments in the Philippines for cattle breeding and milk production.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Thursday had a meeting with the firm's officials wherein he welcomed the idea of large-scale cattle raising in the Philippines to enhance milk production.

“In the Philippines, when you talk about the livestock, we talk about [hog] and chicken, we don’t talk about cattle. Maybe it’s time to introduce it to the market,” Marcos told Farm Fresh executives.

“We are here to see what we can do to make the project successful," the President added.

The firm is presently looking for a viable area with a land requirement of 200 to 400 hectares of farmland to lease in order to raise 2,000 milking cows.

The provinces of Batangas and Laguna are the target locations, according to the company’s officials.

Farm Fresh is eyeing to commence its operations by 2028 with an estimated employment of 200 local workers.

Earlier, Marcos said his three-day state visit to Malaysia generated at least $235 million worth of investment commitments from the Malaysian business sector.

He also had meetings with businessmen from various sectors on Thursday morning, including agriculture, transportation, and technology. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
