FARE HIKE: LRT2 commuters to load more in stored value cards starting August 2
Commuters traveling through the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT2) will have to load more in their stored value or “beep” cards to be avail of the rail line given the fare hikes set to be implemented later this week, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
On Monday, the DOTr said commuters will have to load their beep cards a minimum of P14 from the previous P12 starting August 2, while the maximum fare from Recto Station to the Antipolo Station will be increased to P33 from P28.
For single-journey tickets, the minimum fare will be kept at P15, while the maximum fare will be increased to P35 from P30.
Students, senior citizens, and persons with disability (PWDs) will continue to be given a 20% discount.
“(A)ng karagdagang pamasahe ay gagamitin para sa pagsasaayos at pagpapabuti ng mga pasilidad at serbisyo ng LRT2,” the DOTr said in an advisory.
(The fare hikes will be used to improve the facilities and services of the LRT2.)
The DOTr announced the fare hikes last month after the approval of the Rail Regulatory Unit (RRU) in April, but was deferred upon the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista earlier said Marcos ordered the deferment of the approved fare increases for LRT1 and LRT2 “pending a thorough study on the economic impact” to commuters.
The LRT2 is an elevated railway line that connects 13 stations from Recto in Manila to Antipolo along the Marcos Highway. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
