Manila Water exceeds 2023 service connection target by 20%


East zone concessionaire Manila Water Company Inc. on Friday said it exceeded its new water service connection target last year by nearly 20%.

In a news release, Manila Water said new service connections last year reached 23,701 from January to November 2023.

The company’s target for new service connections last year was set at 19,898.

Since it took over the east zone in 1997, the water concessionaire said it installed 1,167,231 water service connections that consisted of over 1.1 million domestic connections and over 56,000 commercial or industrial connections.

“This development assures that its over 7.6 million customers are provided 24/7 clean and potable water,” Manila Water said.

“Moreover, the water concessionaire ensures water safety and maintains the proper water pressure in the east zone of Metro Manila and parts of Rizal.”

The company added that its non-revenue water (NRW)—or water that is wasted due to leaks and illegal connections— remained below 15%, with an average of 13.59% in the last quarter of 2023.

Manila Water said the World Bank standard for NRW was 25%.                                                                     

As of November 2023, the company said it provided sewer services to 288,490 accounts and laid and maintained a total of 468.41 kilometers of sewer lines.

Furthermore, the company emptied over 103,000 septic tanks from January to November of last year.  

Manila Water provides water distribution and sewerage services in the East zone which spans the cities of Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, most parts of Quezon City, portions of Manila; as well as the towns Angono, Antipolo, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, Cardona, Jala-Jala, Morong, Pililia, Rodriguez, San Mateo, Tanay, Taytay, and Teresa in Rizal province. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
