Manila Water ramping up activation of deep wells
East Zone concessionaire Manila Water Company Inc. said Friday it was ramping up the activation of deep wells in its franchise area to ensure stable water supply during the dry season.
In a news release, Manila Water said it was able to produce up to 67.06 million liters of water per day (MLD) to date from the 38 deep wells currently operating in its concession area.
The company said the water produced from deep wells was an improvement of almost seven MLD compared to the 60.21 MLD as of March 15.
At this rate, Manila Water said the improved deep well operations could provide the daily water needs of up to 335,000 customers.
The water distribution company added that the operation of deep wells aims to ensure water supply to its customers and ease the strain on Angat Dam in the event that the National Water Resources Board reduces both concessionaires’ allocations from 50 MLD to 48 MLD by April 16 to maintain the dam’s working level during the dry months.
“We are working closely with the MWSS and NWRB to preserve Angat Dam’s working level. In addition, the company has been carrying out water supply augmentation programs, which include deep well maximization. These projects help ease our heavy dependency on Angat, which provides 90% of our water supply,” said Manila Water Corporate Communications Affairs Group director Jeric Sevilla.
Manila Water provides water distribution and sewerage services in the East Zone, which spans the cities of Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, most parts of Quezon City, and portions of Manila, as well as Angono, Antipolo, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, Cardona, Jala-Jala, Morong, Pililia, Rodriguez, San Mateo, Tanay, Taytay, and Teresa in Rizal province. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
