Toll fees waived on select hours on Christmas, New Year –SMC

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) announced on Friday that toll fees on its expressways would be waived during specific hours for the holidays,  covering December 24 to 25, 2024, and December 31, 2024 to January 1,  2025.

According to SMC, the toll-free schedule is as follows:

  • 10:00 p.m. on December 24 to 6:00 a.m. on December 25
  • 10:00 p.m. on December 31 to 6:00 a.m. on January 1

The following expressways operated by SMC are covered:

  • Skyway System
  • NAIA Expressway (NAIAX)
  • South Luzon Expressway (SLEX)
  • STAR Tollway
  • Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX)

“This is our way of saying thank you to everyone who uses the expressways we operate. It’s something we look forward to every year because it helps thousands of motorists get home to their families a little easier,  especially during Christmas and New Year,” said SMC Chairman Ramon S.  Ang.

To ensure safety and smooth travel, SMC will deploy patrollers and security personnel in critical areas. Emergency response teams will also be placed on standby starting Friday noon.

Roadworks affecting traffic flow will be suspended from Friday noon until January 3, 2025, and tow trucks and emergency vehicles will be positioned strategically.

SMC also coordinated with local governments to address traffic bottlenecks that are often caused by congestion on local roads leading to expressway exits.

SMC encouraged motorists to plan trips and allow extra travel time; ensure they have sufficient load on their Autosweep RFID accounts to avoid delays; and avoid tailgating at toll plazas, allowing RFID scanners to function properly.

SMC also advised patience, particularly in Metro Manila, where heavy holiday traffic could affect travel schedules. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
