Maynilad invests P25.75B in 2024

West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. on Tuesday said it has invested over P25 billion in 2024 to implement various water and wastewater improvement projects.

In a news release, Maynilad said it spent P25.75 billion last year for initiatives aimed at enhancing its customer services.

Of the over P25-billion capex, the company said P7 billion was allocated to improving the sewerage system, including the construction and upgrade of wastewater facilities that will benefit thousands of customers.

Among the projects included were the ongoing construction of the Caloocan Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) and Las Piñas WRF, both of which commenced last year.

Maynilad added that it also upgraded seven wastewater treatment facilities in Muntinlupa, Pasay, Quezon City, and Manila to comply with DAO 2021-19, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' (DENR) stricter wastewater treatment standards.

Moreover, the water distribution utility said it earmarked P6 billion of its capex to its Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction program, which included the replacement of 142 kilometers of aging pipes in 2024.

The initiative led to the recovery of 158 million liters of water per day (MLD), improving distribution efficiency and reducing water losses, it said.

Maynilad said it invested P6.5 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of key water facilities, including the Poblacion Water Treatment Plant in Muntinlupa and the Parada Pumping Station in Valenzuela.

The company said it has also expanded its pipeline network across the West Zone, including laying pipelines in Morong, Rizal in preparation for future water supply from Kaliwa Dam.

Furthermore, P4.4 billion was allocated to developing small-scale water treatment facilities that tap alternative sources such as dams and rivers in Cavite province, ensuring a more resilient water supply, according to Maynilad.

Apart from infrastructure investments, Maynilad said it earmarked portions of its 2024 budget to enhance customer service and information programs.

These initiatives focus on upgrading digital communication channels and improving service responsiveness, which are key to strengthening customer relationships as we continue to innovate and adapt to evolving service needs, the company said.

“These infrastructure investments reflect our commitment to delivering safe and reliable water services while ensuring long-term sustainability amid growing demand and climate challenges. We remain focused on strengthening our operations and expanding access to clean water and sanitation for our customers,” said Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez.

Maynilad is private water concessionaire of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) in the west zone, which area includes the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres and Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of Holy Spirit and Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; and the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, and the municipalities of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in the province of Cavite. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
