Yang's McDonald’s PH granted fresh 20-year franchise
Quick service restaurant chain McDonald’s is here to stay for another 20 years after Golden Arches Development Corp. (GADC) has been granted a fresh franchise term by the American global fast-food giant to own, operate, and develop McDonald’s restaurants in the country.
On Friday, GADC, also known as McDonald’s Philippines, announced that it has entered into a multi-unit franchise agreement with Chicago, Illinois-headquartered McDonald’s Corp. for a fresh franchise term in the Philippines until 2045.
GADC was granted the license “to, amongst other things, own, develop and operate restaurants and engage in the sub-franchising of restaurants under the McDonald's brand in accordance with the multi-unit franchise agreement with McDonald's Corporation.”
GADC founder chairman George Yang has held the master franchise since the opening of the first McDonald's store in 1981.
McDonald’s Philippines said the grant of the new term license was “a testament, not only to the leadership and stewardship of both George and Kenneth [Yang] for the past 44 years but also in further growing McDonald's in the Philippines in the next 20 years.”
Since opening the first McDonald’s restaurant on Morayta Street, Manila, GADC has grown its network to 792 stores nationwide as of the end of 2024.
The McDonald’s master franchise holder added that its store network spans all the regions in the country, with the majority of its stores located in Metro Manila and Luzon, and close to 70% of which are free-standing with drive-thru.
McDonald's Philippines added that it opened 65 new stores last year.
"When I was applying as a franchisee in the late 70s, McDonald's (Corporation) asked me how many stores I planned to open. I confidently said 10 stores. This 2025, we'll be opening our 800th store," said GADC chairman Yang.
For his part, GADC president and CEO Kenneth Yang said the company is seeing growth opportunities in areas outside of the National Capital Region that have rapidly been developing.
“We're excited to open more stores and bring McDonald's closer to more Filipinos," said the GADC CEO, adding “this 2025, we aim to break our record of new store openings." —AOL, GMA Integrated News
