Meralco: 16,000 customers affected by power interruptions amid Nando

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) on Tuesday said about 16,000 customers were affected by power interruptions amid the onslaught of Super Typhoon Nando.

In an advisory, Meralco said the majority of customers affected by power outages are in the provinces of Cavite and Quezon.

“We assure our customers that our crews are working tirelessly to safely restore power in affected areas. We urge everyone to observe electrical safety, especially in flood-prone areas,” said Meralco vice president and head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga.

The power distributor said it is working “round-the-clock” to restore service in areas hit by power interruptions.

Meralco added it remains on heightened alert for the possible impact of a new tropical depression, which is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility and will be locally named Opong.

“We also continue to closely monitor the situation to ensure timely response to electricity service concerns that may arise because of the inclement weather,” said Zaldarriaga.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines earlier said that power transmission services in Luzon have returned to normal after it restored transmission lines which were earlier rendered unavailable due to the storm.

Super Typhoon Nando exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday morning, according to state weather bureau PAGASA. However, a low pressure area spotted earlier outside PAR has developed into tropical depression. — BM, GMA Integrated News
