No fare hike seen for MRT-3 in 2026
Commuters could expect a sigh of relief next year, as there will be no fare hike for the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) in 2026.
“Wala pong napag-uusapang ganyan…,” MRT-3 General Manager Mike Capati said in a Super Radyo dzBB interview on Saturday.
(There is currently no discussion about that.)
“Wala po tayong fare hike... Ayusin po muna natin ang facility,” Capati said.
(There will be no fare hike… We will rehabilitate our facility first.)
The MRT-3 general manager said the line’s stations will be rehabilitated starting next year, especially the escalators.
“Itong papasok na taon hanggang 2027, mayroon kaming papalitan fully na escalator… Diyan sa Taft Avenue and Ayala,” Capati said.
(This coming year and until 2027 we will fully change the escalator… in Taft Avenue and Ayala.)
For the Dalian trains, he said the MRT-3 will gradually deploy more light rail vehicles as it targets to deploy all 48 Dalian trains by the end of 2026.
He said that the deployment of Dalian trains will sustain the 3.5-minute headway of passengers and could boost the line’s capacity from 500,000 passengers per day to between 600,000 and 700,000 passengers per day. —Ted Cordero/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
