PAL: Only up to 2 power banks allowed per passenger
Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced that each passenger may bring only up to two power banks, following new rules set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
In an advisory, PAL said the allowed power bank capacity is limited to 100 watt-hours (Wh).
“Power banks must have a clearly indicated capacity label—preferably in watt-hours (Wh) or milliampere-hours (mAh),” the advisory read.
The airline also reminded passengers that charging power banks on board is strictly prohibited.
The latest policy is in compliance with ICAO’s recent announcement.
“New lithium battery-powered power bank specifications from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will enhance safety and peace of mind for passengers and airlines alike,” ICAO said.
“Following the improvements agreed upon, these devices will now be limited to two per passenger, and passengers will be prohibited from recharging them during flights,” it added.
A key exception to the new rules allows airline crew to continue carrying and using power banks as required for aircraft operations.
“Importantly, crew will, however, be able to continue carrying and using these power banks in line with the operational requirements of the aircraft," the airline said.
"The new specifications address emerging risks and will take effect on March 27, 2026,” it added.—MCG, GMA News
