Ex-Budget chief Amenah Pangandaman named CEO of state-run Islamic bank
Former Department of Budget and Management Secretary Amenah Pangdaman makes her return to the government after she was named chairperson and CEO of the Al-Amanah Islamic Investment Bank of the Philippines (AAIIBP).
“Her appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter as AAIIBP continues to strengthen Islamic banking, promote financial inclusion, and drive sustainable development,” the AAIIBP said in a statement.
“We look forward to your inspiring leadership and wish you every success,” it added.
According to its website, the AAIIBP is authorized to perform and provide Islamic banking, financing and investment services pursuant to R.A. 6848, or the Charter of the Al-Amanah Islamic Bank of the Philippines of 1990.
The bank has branches in Cagayan de Oro, Cotabato, Davao, Iligan, General Santos, Marawi, Makati, and Zamboanga, and in Jolo, Sulu.
Pangandaman resigned as DBM chief in November 2025 after her name was mentioned in the flood control scandal.
Pangandaman also faced a complaint for alleged technical malversation, graft, and other administrative raps over the unconstitutional transfer of the P60-billion excess funds of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and the P107-billion funds of the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) to the national treasury. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BM, GMA News
