Palace appoints new chairman for energy regulatory body


MANILA, Philippines - A former legislator representing the hometown of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has been appointed as the next Chairman of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), a radio report said. Radio dzBB’s Aileen Intia said Malacañang announced that Zenaida Cruz-Ducut, born February 5, 1956, was chosen to take the post occupied by former Isabela representative Rodolfo Albano, whose term ends this July. During her term as Pampanga’s second district representative, Ducut filed five national and 18 local bills and voted to approve Republic Act 9170, a law granting a franchise to the Aboitiz Air Transport Corporation. The company is owned by the Aboitiz family, which also manages the Visayan Electric Co (VECO), the Philippines’ second-largest electricity distributor. - GMANews.TV
