Court stops GSIS from taking over car insurance business

MANILA, Philippines - A Mandaluyong City court has temporarily prevented the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) from taking over the compulsary third-party liability insurance for motor vehicles. Judge Carlos Valenzuela of Mandaluyong Regional Trial Court Branch 213 issued a 20-day temporary restraining order to stop GSIS and the Transportation and Communication Department (DoTC) from implementing DoTC Order 2007-28. The DoTC order seeks to transfer the CTPL business from private insurance firms. GSIS Legal Counsel Estrella Elamparo said the state-run pension fund has yet to receive a copy of the TRO. "If that was really issued by the court, we have no choice but to question it," Ms. Elamparo said in a phone interview. She said GSIS will question the court's move as StradCom, Inc., the information technology firm of the Land Transportation Office, asked for five days to comment on the TRO. - GMANews.TV
