Customs starts electronic registration for clients


MANILA, Philippines - The Customs bureau has issued Customs Memorandum Order 39-2008, directing exporters, importers and others involved in foreign trade to sign up with the client profile registration system (CPRS) of the bureau’s electronic-to-mobile (e2m) system. The e2m uses Internet and mobile phone technologies to facilitate clearance of items. Registration will run until January 31 next year, after which the system starts operating. "CPRS registration beginning Feb. 1, 2009 as well as amendment and renewal of clients’ and stakeholders’ profile shall be covered by a separate order," a statement read. The requirement also covers Customs brokers, authorized agent banks, surety companies, shipping and airlines, forwarders and consolidators, the statement read further. — BusinessWorld
