Globe Tel to offer discounted call rates

Globe Telecom Inc., the country's second largest phone firm, will soon offer discounted local rates in areas where there is low call traffic, after obtaining the approval from regulators. According to documents from the National Telecommunications Commission, this plan was approved on August 29. Globe intends to launch this not later than September 30. The firm also plans to offer its home zone-charging promo where festivals, fairs, expositions and other events are being conducted. The promo will be available only to Globe pre-paid subscribers calling Globe post-paid and prepaid subscribers. Both the calling party and the called party should be in the same locality, city or municipality to avail of the discounted rate. The rates to be offered will be within the range of P3 to P6 per minute of local voice call. Text messaging and other services, however, are subject to normal rates. Other details of the promotional offering were not revealed in Globe's application. At present, Globe charges local calls by the second for P0.10 or P6 per minute. - GMANews.TV
