Peso deals between 51.095, 51.16 to US dollar


The US dollar on Monday was dealing between P51.095 and P51.16 with the weighted average of P51.126 during midday trading. Volume was at $345.5 million. The Philippine currency opened at P51.15 against the greenback, higher than last Friday’s P51.18 close. On Monday morning, Arroyo visited the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) office for the opening ceremony of the day’s trading. The presence of the President supposedly brought “luck." As of 12:02 p.m., the Philippine Stocks Exchange reported the Phisix advanced at 17.95 points or .8426 percent at 2, 148. 32. All shares was up 9.53 points or .7287 percent at 1, 317.25. Financials increased at 9.30 points or 1.4203 percent at 664. 10. Industrial advanced 12.28 points or .3975 percent at 3, 101.33. Holding firms was raised at 9.07 points or .8698 percent at 1, 051. 87. Property was up 3.59 points or .402 percent at 896. 56. Services index was up 9.51 points or .9193 percent at 1, 044.03. Mining and oil was dipped 2.77 points or .095 percent at 2, 914.51. Gainers outnumbered losers at 48 to 23 with 52 stocks unchanged. Market analysts said the peso regained its greatest value as the political crisis eased up after the lifting of proclamation 1017 last week. On Friday, Arroyo declared the state of emergency on Friday due to the reported coup plots against the government.
