PAL cancels nine intl, 60 domestic flights

Philippine Airlines on Friday canceled at least nine international and 60 domestic flights, as the flag carrier’s ground operations remain impaired by striking workers. The cancellations came on the eve of PAL's outsourcing program involving three non-core businesses — which triggered a labor row with the PAL Employees Association. "Ito ang siyam na canceled flights. Ngayon, ang domestic flights na canceled — ito ay 60," PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said in an interview on dzBB radio. She said the canceled international flights were:

  • PR-318 and 319: Manila to Hong Kong and back
  • PR-426 and 425: Manila to Fukuoka and back
  • PR-352 and 353: Manila to Macau and back
  • PR-501 and 512: Manila to Singapore and back
  • PR-313: Hong Kong to Manila
The domestic flights that were canceled were enroute to Roxas, Tagbilaran, Dipolog, Cagayan, Ozamiz, Iloilo, and the flight between Cagayan and Bacolod. "(Passengers) can look at specific flights by calling (our hotline) 8558888," she advised. Villaluna stressed that PAL will push through with the other 57 international and 28 domestic flights scheduled Friday. PAL management is now assessing the damage supposedly inflicted on the airline’s tow tugs, tractors, and deck loaders by PALEA members last Tuesday. She said some of the striking workers might have tampered with the wiring of some equipment, rendering them unserviceable. Villaluna said PAL aims to get back on normal in "four to five weeks." — VS, GMA News
