Atlas Mining to operate an expanded Toledo mine in March

Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corp. on Wednesday said the Toledo mining project in Cebu will operate in full swing next month after initial tests yielded positive results.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Atlas said its wholly-owned subsidiary Carmen Copper Corp. did the initial commissioning of the expansion project last January 31.

Basically, Carmen Copper tested the circuits and equipment for 60 hours which covered the "... test run for all equipment installed in Toledo mine," Atlas investor relations Michael Garcia told GMA News Online.

"The data process provided us good results, showing satisfactory copper recovery and grind size accuracy," he added.

Garcia said the test run for the remaining process circuit will start this week and the whole processing plant is expected to be fully operational by March 2014.

The expansion will increase the milling capacity of the existing plant by 50 percent to 60,000 tons per day from 40,000 tons per day.

The major components installed for expansion have a crushing capacity of 30,000 tons per day.

In 2012, executive vice president Adrian Ramos said the company will invest about $105 million to upgrade the mill facility of Carmen Copper's Toledo complex in Cebu, allowing the Atlas subsidiary to raise its monthly output to 10 million pounds of copper concentrate from the up to 7.5 million pounds. – VS, GMA News
