Customs Bureau uncovers 1,000 sacks of smuggled rice from China
By SIEGFRID O. ALEGADO, GMA News
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has uncovered some 1,000 sacks of illegally imported premium rice from China, the bureau claimed in a statement Tuesday.
The sacks were discovered stacked in-between counterfeit goods inside three 40-foot container vans.
The vans – seized during a three-day operation in Tambo, Parañaque – were being inventoried by the BOC, the National Bureau of Investigation and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines when the rice was discovered, Charo Logarta Lagamon of the Customs Public Information Bureau told GMA News Online.
The shipments arrived at the Port of Manila last Friday.
25-kilogram bags of rice were then discovered stashed in between boxes and bales of the fake goods, the statement noted.
This brings the total number of illegally imported rice seized from the same warehouse to about 2,000 sacks worth some P3 million. – VS, GMA News
