Most banks in metropolis, nearby provinces open on limited scale as TS Mario ravages Luzon


(Updated 12:41 p.m.) Most banks in Metro Manila and nearby provinces are open on limited branch operations Friday as Tropical Storm Mario and Habagat or the southwest monsoon continued to ravage the main island of Luzon.
 
Affected branches of BDO Unibank Inc., especially those in flooded areas, are closed, the Sy-led bank noted in a text advisory.
 
"Unaffected branches shall remain open," it said.
 
On its official Twitter account, Ayala-led Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) said it is "business as usual" in terms of branch operations, automated teller machines (ATMs) and electronic channels.
 
"However, it is best to check if your branch of destination is operational," it said.
 
 
 
 
For state-owned Land Bank of the Philippines, branches in Metro Manila are open for regular transactions until 12 noon except those in flooded areas, it said on its official Facebook page.
 
Offices and branches of Philippine Bank of Communications in the National Capital Region are closed due to inclement weather and flooding, the bank said in an e-mail message.
 
"All other PBCOM branches and other banking offices are open for business. Likewise, our nationwide ATM network, including Metro Manila, and Customer Care Hotline (+632 77-PBCOM / 77-72266 or Domestic Toll Free 1-800-1077-72266) are available to service clients," it said.
 
Meanwhile, all RCBC Savings Bank branches in Metro Manila are closed due to inclement weather.
 
 
The management of Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company also suspended banking operations in Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, Mindoro and Western Batangas. "Branches in other areas not affected by the typhoon will remain open to serve customers," the bank said in a separate text message.
 
EastWest Banking Corp. closed some of its branches in Metro Manila, according to a post on its Facebook account.
 
China Banking Corp. said most of its branches are open except for those in areas heavily affected by the storm, it said in a text advisory.
 
"China Bank Online's internet, mobile, ATM and phone banking are likewise operational as alternative banking channels for our customers," the bank added.
 
In an e-mailed statement, Maybank Philippines Inc. announced it closed its branches in Marikina, Meycauayan, Ortigas, San Juan, Malabon, Cainta, McKinley, Makati Avenue and Caloocan due to tropical storm Mario.
 
Its ATM units are online are also operational,  except for those ATMs in Dumaguete, Maxims Hotel (Ground Floor), Guagua branch and Malabon branch.
 
"The bank’s priority is to provide customers with uninterrupted service. Maybank’s Internet banking platform, maybank2u.com.ph, is online to service the banking requirements of our customers," the bank said.

Trading on the Philippine Stock Exchange was suspended Friday as torrential rains and flooding forced the Securities Clearing Corporation of the Philippines shutdown clearing and settlement operations in the banking system.
