Alaminos red tide to last for a week
The threat on shellfish from the red tide toxin in Alaminos, Pangasinan could linger for at least a week, the city agriculture office said on Tuesday.
City Agriculture Office aquaculturist and fish examiner Milberth Ferrer said the officer would continue its tight monitoring of the area, GMA Dagupan reported.
"Continuous po yung monitoring natin sa market at saka yung mga traders natin," Ferrer said.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources also said it would conduct a new round of water testing in Alaminos City.
Last week, the BFAR warned against catching and eating shellfish from the Alaminos area due to the threat from red tide toxins.
In Lingayen town, vendors complained their sales of bagoong (shrimp paste) and alamang (krill) had declined.
Despite this, talaba or oysters continued to sell well in other parts of Pangasinan including Dagupan City. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
