Neda approves P48-B Laiban Dam project

The National Economic Development Authority board has approved the P47.93-billion Laiban Dam Project, formerly known as the Manila Water Supply Project III. In a statement distributed to the media on Wednesday, the agency said board approval for the water supply program was given on April 17. "The project, which costs about PhP47.93 billion aims to provide long-term water supply ― about 1,900 million liters per day or 22 cubic meters per second of water ― for Metro Manila. It also intends to address the exiting 1,122 MLD of water supply gap in the Metro," NEDA said in its statement. Aside from improving the supply of water, NEDA said the project will also boost the power supply in the Luzon Grid. The project provides for the construction of a 25-megawatt hydroelectric power plant. The Laiban dam will be located in Tanay, Rizal, and is positioned as an alternative to the existing Angat and Ipo Dams. It is expected to be operational by 2016.-GMANews.TV
