AEDC to bid for P74.56-B NAIA redevelopment project

Asia’s Emerging Dragon Corporation (AEDC) expressed its intent on Monday to bid for the P74.56-billion redevelopment project of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) under the government’s public-private partnership (PPP) scheme.

“We are participating in the bidding because we firmly believe in the growth potential of our country’s premier airport, given our past experience of pushing for Philippine aviation development,” AEDC President Gen. Salvador Mison said in an emailed statement.

According to the AEDC, it will team up with a foreign partner for the project to improve, upgrade, and enhance the operational efficiencies of all existing terminals of the NAIA covering both landside and airside, except air traffic services.

The project is also seen to improve the country’s main gateway to meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Listed conglomerate San Miguel Corp. earlier confirmed it will bid for the project, while Ayala Corp. said it is looking into the possibility of going for the project.

Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) is also keen on entering the aviation industry and support government efforts to improve the airport. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
