BSP rules out paying old central bank debt

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Tuesday said it had done its share in settling the debts of the old central bank, arguing that doing more would run counter to its mandate. Responding to calls for the BSP to help in servicing the debts of the Central Bank Board of Liquidators, BSP Deputy Governor Nestor A. Espenilla, Jr. said the BSP has "fulfilled its part of assisting in the servicing of the old Central Bank debts" since it started operations in 1993. - MEIC/BusinessWorld
