TESDA to hold trainers' training program for IT-BPO industry

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has announced its partnership with business process outsourcing (BPO) industry leaders to hold a training program for trainers in the $11-billion industry. TESDA director general Joel Villanueva said that the agency and the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) will roll out the Trainers Methodology Plus (TM Plus) program to enhance trainers' skills and provide them with the skill-set the industry requires. The initial batch of 900 trainers taking the course will then train succeeding batches, increasing the opportunities to receive the training. Villanueva said he has seen the industry’s exponential growth and impact and recognizes the huge contribution of a talented workforce. “TESDA will continue to help develop a dynamic generation of future IT-BPO professionals to sustain the industry’s growth,” he said.  “Prospects for Filipino talent remain bright. The Philippines is among the top global destinations for outsourcing services,” said BPAP president Benedict Hernandez, adding that the industry’s growth can only be sustained if there is a steady supply of talent and the trainers to develop them. The local BPO industry is expected to employ at least 1.3 million and become a $25-billion industry by 2016. — BM, GMA News
