DTI confiscates P2 million worth of counterfeit angle bars

Law enforcement agencies and the Department of Trade and Industry have confiscated more than 50 tons of allegedly counterfeit and uncertified angle bars worth P2 million in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Twenty tons had a local manufacturer's mark but were identified as counterfeit by representatives of the Steel Angles, Shapes and Sections Manufacturers Association of the Philippines Inc.  The other 30 tons of angle bars were uncertified and without the required marking. they were also not covered by an import commodity clearance (ICC). DTI’s Department Administrative Order No. 02, Series of 2007 mandates distributors, wholesalers, retailers to sell only products that comply with the Philippine National Standard (PNS) and have a PS Mark, or a valid ICC in the case of imported products. Construction materials, including angle bars, require mandatory certification by the DTI-Bureau of Product Standards (BPS). — BM, GMA News
