Prices of fish, vegetables go up amid cold weather
Prices of some fish and meat items have gone up in some markets in Metro Manila, with vendors blaming the cold weather for it. A report by radio dzBB's Allan Gatus early Wednesday quoted vendors at the Mega Q Mart in Quezon City as saying fishermen had less catch in the colder weather. The dzBB report also quoted the vendors as saying the fishermen have a harder time catching fish, which go deep underwater as the surface gets colder. It added the higher prices of fish have prompted some buyers to buy meat instead. On Wednesday morning, prices of pork had gone up from P165 to P180 per kilo, while beef prices went up to P300 per kilo. Prices of galunggong went up from P110 to as high as P140 per kilo, although tilapia prices remained steady at P90 per kilo. Bangus prices also went up from P115 to P140 per kilo. Even prices of some vegetables went up, including pechay and cabbage, from P25 to P30 per kilo. Garlic prices went up from P60 to P90 per kilo, and prices of red pepper went up from P70 to P80 per kilo. — LBG, GMA News
