Court approves Globe-BayanTel frequency sharing

The Rehabilitation Court of Pasig City has allowed Bayan Telecommunications Inc. (BayanTel) to share its frequencies with Globe Telecom Inc. The Rehabilitation Court gave the green light on the joint use agreement between BayanTel and Globe on February 25, 2013, according to a statement from National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). The NTC allowed BayanTel to share its frequencies with Globe last September on condition that it would secure the approval of the Rehabilitation Court within 60 days. In the statement, the NTC said the joint use of the frequency would improve the efficiency of both firms as well as decongest their networks so that they can comply with the quality of service prescribed by the commission. BayanTel is indebted to Globe to the tune of P20 billion, of which P8.19 billion has been repaid from 2004 to 2011. — KBK, GMA News
