Maynilad allots P61M for replacement of leaking pipes in QC
West Zone Water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. is spending P61 million to complete the replacement of leaking pipes in Quezon City within the first half of the year. There are 11 kilometers of leaking pipes in East Fairview and East Fairview Parkhomes, where Maynilad is servicing 20,800 people, the company said in a statement Thursday. Maynilad said replacing the leaking pipes will also enable them to recover around three million liters of water per day, which is enough to supply the daily requirement of 3,000 households. “Leaks and mainline breakages not only cause unscheduled water interruptions, but can also serve as entry points for water contaminants,” said Maynilad president and CEO Ricky P. Vargas. “Our pipe replacement projects will therefore deliver better services to our consumers and safeguard their health,” he added. Maynilad is coordinating with the Quezon City Engineering Office and the officials of barangays that will be affected by the ongoing repair. To ensure public safety, the worksites were fully enclosed by board-up barricades, with appropriate lighting and traffic/warning signs. Moreover, affected roads are immediately restored with temporary asphalt pavement to make the roads passable. Maynilad services the cities of Manila (except portions of San Andres and Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province. — KBK, GMA News
