Manila Water to lower rates, Maynilad to charge more starting July 3
By DANESSA O. RIVERA, GMA NewsÂ
(Updated 7:28 p.m.) Customers of Manila Water Company Inc. will see their water bills go down while those getting water from Maynilad Water Services Inc. will see an increase—both adjustments happening on July 3—as the companies make adjustments in relation to the foreign exchange rate.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Monday, Manila Water said its rates will decrease by P0.54 per cubic meter due to foreign currency differential adjustment or FCDA, the company’s tariff mechanism to retrieve foreign exchange losses in payments on concession loans and foreign currency denominated borrowings.
The FCDA component of water bills will be adjusted from -0.37 percent of basic charge to -1.97 percent, the company said. This means the utility, which covers the east zone, will deduct more from the water bill than it usually does.
The adjustment is based on exchange rates of P41.14 to a dollar and P0.0.4221 per yen.
The average weighted tariff covering the four customer classifications—residential, semi-business, commercial and industrial—will enjoy savings of P0.58 per cubic meter from P37.88 to P37.30.
The P0.58 per cubic meter downward adjustment includes the FCDA, value-added tax and environmental charges. It will take effect July 3 and reflect on the bills for August.
With these tariff adjustments, the total monthly bill for Manila Water consumers using 20 cubic meters per month will decrease by P4.82 while those using 30 cubic meters will decrease by P9.84 in their water bills, head of corporate communications Jeric T. Sevilla told GMA News Online.
Commercial establishments consuming 100 cubic meters per month will be able to save P98.84, while those consuming 250 cubic meters will save P248.08.
The east zone covers parts of Quezon City and Makati, the southeastern parts of Manila, Taguig, Pateros, Marikina, Pasig, San Juan, Mandaluyong, and Rizal province.

West zone
West zone concessionaire Maynilad will slightly increase its rates by P0.17 per cubic meter to P46.73 from P46.56 due to a weaker peso against other foreign currencies, it said in a separate statement.
Households consuming 10 cubic meters or less each month will see their bills increase by P0.39 to P119.51 from P119.12, while those consuming 20 cubic meters will see their bills increase by P1.47 to P423.82 from P422.35.
Meanwhile, households consuming 30 cubic meters a month will see an increase of P3.01 in their water bills to P850.43 from P847.42.
The west zone covers cities of Manila—all but portions of San Andres & Sta. Ana)—Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Hi-way), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; Cavite City, and the towns of Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.
