Supply, prices of Noche Buena items remain stable – DTI

The Department of Trade and Industry announced Wednesday that the prices and supply of Noche Buena items remain stable and are within their suggested retail prices.

“The price of Noche Buena items is within the suggested retail price,” DTI Secretary Gregory Domingo said during a market monitoring activity in Tutuban, Divisoria, Manila.

With Domingo and other DTI officials during the inspection was Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, chairman of the Senate Committee on Trade, Commerce, and Entrepreneurship.

Secretary Domingo said prices are not expected to rise because there is an adequate supply of Noche Buena items.

The prices of the traditional Christmas ham remain within the SRP. According to a list of suggested retail prices from the DTI, the SRPs of different kinds of ham range from P185 per kilogram for Noche Buena ham to P655 per kilogram for bone-in Chinese ham.

The DTI also lists SRPs for several brands of ham, fruit cocktail, cheese and sandwich spread, mayonnaise, keso de bola, pasta and spaghetti, elbow and salad macaroni, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, and creamer.

Domingo reminded storeowners to keep their products within the suggested retail price. Stores that overprice their goods will be issued show-cause letters to explain their price increases.

DTI price monitoring teams will also regularly check the market to make sure that the supply and price of Noche Buena items remain stable during the Christmas season.

The DTI advised the public to always check the weight and price tag of products before buying.

It also said consumers with questions or complaints may visit a nearest DTI provincial or regional Office in their area or contact the DTI Direct Hotline at (02) 751-3330 and 0917-8343330. — JDS, GMA News
