NLEX-SLEX connector roadworks start this month, go full-blast in April
Construction of the road that will connect the expressways on the northern and southern ends of Metro Manila is expected to commence this January, the project proponent Citra Central Expressway Corp. said Wednesday.
CCEC said in a statement that groundbreaking and advance works including excavation and bored piling will take place in preparation for full-scale works scheduled in April.
“To strategically cut down the process of right-of-way acquisition and speed up project completion, CCEC adopts an engineering design that is a first-in-the Philippines,” the proponent said.
The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connector road will take the shape of a skyway with double-deck sections at certain points were right-of-way acquisition and delay points are anticipated.
“The double-deck elevated expressway was conceptualized in view of the predictable construction timetable while, experience-wise, the delivery and acquisition of the required right-of-way is not,” CCEC said.
The southern end of the connector road begins at the end of the existing Skyway Stage 1 in Buendia. It will follow the length of Osmena Highway, Quirino Avenue, Paco, Sta. Mesa via the Nagtahan flyovers, traverse Aurora Blvd and Araneta Ave. up to Sgt Rivera Road and terminate at the bend of A Bonifacio Ave. towards North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).
Thirty-six months or three years is the programmed construction time for the mostly-elevated six lane expressway.
