Gov't. to include LRT-MRT common station under P65-B LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension Project

The government is keen on including the construction of a common station linking LRT and MRT along EDSA in the P65-billion LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension Project, the biggest public-private partnership initiative of the Aquino administration, an official of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) said.

Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya told reporters this move was on the request of the two bidders which are the Ayala-Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) tandem and DM Consunji Inc. (DMCI).

“We want to make it part of the bid,” he said.

Abaya said the agency's Planning Department recommended the winning bidder of the LRT Line 1 Cavite extension project to also construct the LRT-MRT common station to avoid further delays.
The DOTC, in turn, extended the deadline for investors to submit their bids for the project to May 28 from April 28, the DOTC chief noted.

In August 2013, the bidding was stunted after private sector participants found the requirements too strict and only a single bidder went for it and gave investors until April 28 to submit bid proposals.

Seven groups have expressed interest in the LRT Cavite expansion project, which are the Ayala-MPIC group under Light Rail Manila Consortium, DMCI, Megawide Construction Corp., Spanish-owned Globalvia Inversiones SAU, San Miguel Group's SMC Infra Resources Inc., Eco Rail Services Inc. of businessman Reghis Romero II and Malaysian-owned MTD Philippines Inc. — DOR/OMG, GMA News
