NGCP: 10 to 12 hour power outages in parts of north Luzon Thursday

Parts of northern Luzon may expect power outages of 10 to 12 hours on Thursday, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said Wednesday.

But the NGCP said this is due not to lack of power reserves but to other reasons, such as preventive maintenance and road works.

In Cagayan, Kalinga, Apayao and Isabela, the NGCP said maintenance work may cause a power interruption from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday.

The NGCP said this is due to the "annual preventive maintenance and testing" of substation equipment at Gamu and Tuguegarao Substation and line maintenance of Gamu-Tuguegarao 230Kv transmission line.

Affected are areas serviced by the Cagayan I Electric Cooperative Inc., Cagayan II Electric Cooperative Inc., Kalinga Electric Cooperative Inc. and Isabela II Electric Cooperative Inc. (ISELCO II) Cabagan Substation.

Meanwhile, a power interruption is scheduled in Mountain Province and parts of Benguet, Ilocos Sur and Tinglayan, Kalinga from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

This will affect the areas covered by the Mt. Province Electric Cooperative (MOPRECO).

NGCP said this was to accommodate the request of the Department of Public Works and Highways for road widening along Tacong, Sagada, Mt. Province.

Also, there would be a replacement of selected woodpoles and line hardware along MOPRECO Banao-MOPRECO Sagada 69kV line segment.

On the other hand, a power interruption from 6 to 8 a.m. is scheduled in Tublay (except Capongga), Kapangan, Kibungan, Bokod, Kabayan,Mankayan, Bakun, Atok and Buguias, Benguet.

The NGCP said this is to bypass a disconnect switch in preparation for replacement and line reconfiguration along La Trinidad-Bulalacao 69kV line. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
