By DANESSA O. RIVERA, GMA News
Most shopping malls decided to stay open for business despite the torrential rains and strong winds brought about by Typhoon Glenda (Rammasun) that battered Metro Manila and nearby provinces through most of Wednesday morning.
Only Robinsons Malls in the capital region and nearby provinces were closed, while Ayala Malls decided to open for business at 1 p.m. when the worst of Typhoon Glenda seemed to have passed.
Sy-led SM Prime Holdings Inc. opened the doors to its malls as Glenda plagued the national capital region.
In a text advisory, SM Supermalls said the stores are open "to serve the public as usual... Many SM Malls in various locations across the country have served as shelter... through the night from the onslaught of Typhoon Glenda."
Most SM Supermarkets were also open.
As of 12 noon Wednesday, SM Supermarkets president Joey Mendoza said all supermarkets opened at normal hours except the stores in Dasmariñas, Cavite, Batangas City, Calamba, Lipa City and San Pablo City.
However, SM supermarkets in Dasmariñas and Batangas City opened only at noon, and the store in Calamba at 1 p.m. The situation concerning the stores in Lipa and San Pablo remained unclear.
Ayala Malls, meanwhile, decided to open for business in the afternoon, according to its Twitter account, saying the stores in Metro Manila and some parts of Luzon welcomed shoppers at 1 p.m.
These include Gloreitta, Greenbelt, Alabang Town Center, Market Market, TriNoma, MarQuee Mall, Solenad, Harbor Point, UP Town Center, Fairview Terraces, The District Cavite and The District Dasmariñas.
