Former GMA News Online reporter bags first EJAP online feature award

Former GMA News Online business reporter Siegfrid Alegado bagged the first award for business feature of the year in the online category at the 23rd Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP) Business Journalism Awards last Friday.

Alegado, who is now with global business and financial market news Bloomberg LP, won the award for the report "PHL fights to save PPP initiative before PNoy goes in 2016."

This is the first time the business news organization has recognized the works of economic journalists working in online news organizations, EJAP president Darwin Amojelar said in his speech.

"Just like print, online media is important in providing informative, unbiased and relevant economic news in a 'real time' environment," he said.

"EJAP believes that honoring the best business reporters is one way of encouraging all industry members to pursue excellence in the field," he added.

Among other awards, EJAP also recognized the "Best reporter of the year" in various categories and the "Feature of the year" for the print media category.

Other winners in this year's EJAP Business Journalism Awards are the following:

-Philippine Daily Inquirer's Doris Dumlao for capital markets reporter of the year
-Malaya Business Insights' Jimmy Capapati for best banking beat reporter
-Business Mirror's Lenie Lectura for best energy beat reporter and best telecommunications beat reporter
-Philippine Daily Inquirer's Ronnel Domingo for best agri reporter
-Malaya Business Insight's Angela Celis for best macroeconomy reporter
-Philippine Star's Zinnia dela Pena for best finance beat reporter
-Philippine Daily Inquirer's Amy Remo for best trade industry reporter
-Philippine Daily Inquirer's Daxim Luxas for best feature story for print media categoery

Meanwhile, "Business news source of the year" award was given to the Philippine Daily Inquirer for bagging the most number of awards. — BM, GMA News
