Pinoys start buying candles, flowers for All Saints’ Day
Filipinos started to flock to Dangwa for flowers and Divisoria for candles as they prepared for All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day over the weekend.
According to reports in "24 Oras," most shoppers decided to purchase before the weekend to avoid bigger crowds. The report said there were more than usual shoppers in both Dangwa and Divisoria on Thursday.
Most of them didn't mind the crowd as well as the increase in prices just to remember their loved ones who have already passed away.
Prices of flowers increased by P20 to P50 per piece.
The present prices of some flowers in Dangwa per dozen are as follows:
Malaysian mums: P80-P160
White anthurium: P600-P800
Roses: P170-180
Chrysanthemum: P100-120
Carnation: P180-P280
Vendors in Dangwa also sell baskets of flowers priced from P250-P1,000.
The price of orchids went down to P250 to P350 per four dozen—from its usual price of P450.
Vendors said there were certain flowers ideal for those who are still going home to their province for Undas. Malaysian mums, white anthurium, and orchids can last up to a week.
In Divisoria, the candle prices increased by five per cent, a separate "24 Oras" report said. Depending on its size, a candle can be bought for P20 up to P140.
Because of the influx of shoppers, vendors said they were already running out of candles.
To bring as snacks while in the cemetery, chips and fruits are also bestsellers in Divisoria.
